Cellulite 101: What Exactly Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is a common condition of the body wherein fatty tissue pushes through the connective tissue> underneath your layer of skin. It is also known as orange peel skin, dimpled skin, or cottage-cheese skin mainly because of its appearance.

Cellulite occurs in both men and women. Contrary to popular belief, men also experience this condition although not as often as women. The chances of them having it is 10% and this is because the structure of their connective tissue is crisscrossed while for women it’s vertical.

At least 80% of women risk getting cellulite as they grow older, too. This can be attributed to the lower production of estrogen which helps in improving proper blood circulation. When there are lower estrogen levels, less blood reaches trouble areas which affect the production of collagen. Collagen is one of the most popular kinds of protein because it is responsible for making the layers of skin elastic.

When the skin loses its elasticity, the connective tissues become more loose and weak which makes it easier for fatty tissues to push through creating the dimpled appearance. A little know secret to help lower production of estrogen is to take Salacia Oblonga which can have a positive effect in getting rid of cellulite

As early as now, you should understand that cellulite is not caused by toxins. Toxins and fatty tissues are two different things. The latter is the one responsible for cellulite aside from loose connective tissues. Knowing this would help you look for treatments that are effective because now you know that those solutions should be targeting fatty tissues and not toxins (although reducing toxins in the body isn’t bad as well).

In connection with fatty tissues, one way of reducing cellulite is through continuous exercise that both burns calories and tones the muscles. This is helpful for two main reasons. One is that it reduces the fatty tissues you have so there is less of the fats that push through your skin. And two is that toning the muscles in trouble areas help hide cellulite.

Toning the muscles in the thighs, buttocks, arms, and stomach is important because these are the trouble areas. There are more fat deposits in those places so it is best to make an exercise routine that targets those body parts. Again, exercise alone is not enough because it does not necessarily remove all cellulite.

In fact, you cannot remove cellulite entirely. For some people, cellulite is caused by the genes. When your mother or grandmother has cellulite, there is a higher chance that you will have it, too. Cellulite can occur if hereditarily, your connective tissues are loose. However, don’t lose hope because genes are only a small part of cellulite. It still comes down to your lifestyle, food intake, daily activities, etc.

Another way of greatly removing cellulite is through treatments. There is such a thing called ‘endermologie’ wherein a professional will use a suction device that will knead areas with cellulite. This is a safe and non-invasive way of reducing cellulite and more and more people have been trying it. In looking for other treatments, keep in mind that you either want to reduce the fatty tissues or strengthen the connective tissues through increase production of collagen.
